Martha is the Toast of the Justin Beiber Roast–Kills Comedy Monologue

Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 11.01.13 AM

The reviews are in: Martha is receiving near unanimous praise for her comedy monologue (video) at Comedy Central’s Roast of Justin Bieber. If you are familiar with these roasts, you  know that there is little that is considered “crossing the line”–and Martha certainly delivered with no holds barred. As she has done in the past, Martha did not shy away from references to her time spent in a women’s penitentiary, and offered Bieber some advice for surviving prison. The other panelists, and the audience, absolutely LOVED it. It seems the public agrees, as Martha has been the toast of the internet and social media since the program aired!

Watch Martha’s segment here (video). PLEASE NOTE: The humor is NSFW.

These jokes were reportedly cut from the telecast:

“Justin, you have no idea what you’re in for. I’m sure it’s great to have 60 millions followers on Twitter. But the only place people will be following you in prison will be into the shower.”

She also offered Bieber some advice on his tattoos:

“You have an owl on your arm and the word ‘patience’ on your neck. I would suggest the words ‘White power’ so you don’t look like some 14-year-old girl’s Trapper Keeper.”

After this performance, it seems likely Martha will be asked back for more. It’s gonna be tough to top this one!

Playful Martha Steals the Show on Justin Bieber’s Red Carpet

The Biebs needs a good talking to–and who better to school him that Martha herself? The lifestyle expert was one of the roasters at Comedy Central’s Roast of Justin BIeiber. The show airs on March 30, but from the looks of how things went on the red carpet, Martha is more than holding her own with other roasters, including (her pal) Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Hart, and others. Martha’s presence has become quite the talking point over the past few weeks, and even warranted this full article from the UK’s Daily Mail.

Martha’s outfit, hidden in the above photo, is described as “an ornate red and pink floral-printed jacket dress with skinny black leather-like leggings and black sandal heels.” Always stylish, I love that Martha is getting cred for her playful side, and her sense of humor–which I’m sure has served her well over the ups and downs of her career. FOMs: So, are you going to watch Martha roast Justin Bieber on March 30?

Martha Travels NYC-LA and Is Described as “Perfect” Passenger

Image

Martha traveled from NYC-LA (among other reasons, to attend the wedding of music mogul-turned-luxury home designer Sandy Gallin and Bryan Fox), completely unaware there was a spy on board apparently observing her every move. Said spy later reported to Daily News that Martha was the “perfect” passenger–politely inquiring about wine offerings, neatly folding her blanket after use, and freshening up just before landing–and cleaning the sink behind her! Bonus points for traveling in impeccable style, I’d addFOMs: This is why we love Martha, right?

The full story can be found here.

From Daily News (as is the above photo):

Martha Stewart is a domestic diva even when she flies. A first-class spywitness on an American Airlines Friday flight from JFK to LAX tells us the homemaking maven was an utter delight on board — but refused all offerings on the wine list, including a Bogle Sauvignon Blanc, an Echelon Chardonnay and an Oakley 82 California Red.

Martha’s Interview with Austin Business Journal [video]

Image

Martha Stewart sits for an extensive interview to share her thoughts about business and entrepreneurship. Colin Pope, the interviewer, says that, of the 20-plus interviews he’s taped, this one with Martha is the all-time most requested. The video is 45-minutes of pure Martha fabulousness. Enjoy!

From the Austin Business Journal:

This is an entrepreneur who has amassed a reported net worth of $638 million as she built one of the world’s most recognizable brands, so I was eager to sit down with her last year and extract some business intelligence for aspiring entrepreneurs.

The conversation ran the gamut — from mistakes made in her startup days to how she markets in the digital world. She got in a few laughs about her prison stay, but I was pleased to be a part of almost an hour of straight business talk from someone who rarely goes on about corporate strategy.

Martha Attends Professional Bull Riders Opener (And Rocks a Killer Outfit)

Image

Martha attended the Professional Bull Riders season opener at Madison Square Garden in NYC last weekend, in a stunning and (of course) event-appropriate outfit. Martha, long a farm owner/operator in Bedford, NY, told People Magazine, “I love this sport. I can’t believe they can stay on there for eight seconds.” FOMs: If there’s any 70-something woman who could successfully take on bull riding, our money’s on the ageless SuperMartha!

From People Magazine (as is the above photo):

Amid a sea of cowboy hats at the Professional Bull Riders season opener in New York City this weekend was a surprising celebrity fan.

“I love this sport,” Martha Stewart told the crowd at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. “I can’t believe they can stay on there for eight seconds.”

Stewart wasn’t the only famous supporter in attendance, either.

Martha Visits Persephone Farm in Washington State

Image

This is one of the qualities I suspect each of us admires about Martha: her unquenchable desire to learn. While visiting Washington for the wedding of horticulturalist Dan Hinkley and Robert Jones, Martha found time to visit nearby Persephone Farm.

Dan Hinkley and Robert Jones founded Heronswood, a mutli-acre botanical garden in Kingston, WA. You can tour the gardens by visiting the Heronswood website’s photo gallery here.

And yes–that is Ryan, Martha’s (very cute) gardener, in the photo, second from left.

From Persephone Farm’s website (as is the above photo):

Martha knew the names of all the plants and we had fun comparing gardens, hers stretching from Bedford NY to Mt. Desert Island, ME. One of her personal gardeners was with us and he seemed to be taking lots of notes and shooting pictures.

Martha is Interviewed at 92nd Street YMCA

Image

In this video, a relaxed Martha is interviewed by Bravo TV’s Andy Cohen. (Yes, Martha dutifully answers the “Shag, Marry, Kill” question!)  I’m alway amazed at how even-keeled and relaxed Martha is during interviews, given all the is going on at MSLO these days. After so many years in business, she seems well-equipped and able to weather ANYTHING that comes her way. Go get ’em, Martha!

Fun stuff, right? Read Martha’s thoughts on the interview, and see photos, on The Martha Stewart Blog.

Martha vs. Macy’s: Martha Testified Today

martha_boxing

As you probably know, the Martha vs. Macy’s trial has begun. Let’s recap the relevant developments:

– In 2005, MSLO and Macy’s enter into an agreement to sell Martha Stewart branded items in Macy’s stores. The agreement gives Macy’s exclusive rights to sell Martha Stewart branded items in specific categories: bedding, bath, cookware, and dinnerware. Importantly, the agreement also contains language that allows MSLO to sell Martha Stewart branded items outside Macy’s stores, as long as they are sold in stand-alone Martha Stewart stores. (For at the time, there was a single Martha Stewart store in Japan.)

– In 2011, MSLO entered into a partnership with JC Penney to sell Martha-branded items in dedicated spaces inside JC Penney stores, essentially creating a Martha Stewart “store within a store” in JC Penney stores nationwide.

– In 2012, Macy’s sued both MSLO and JC Penney, claiming that the partnership was a breach of Macy’s exclusive right to sell Martha Stewart branded items in the specific product categories. Initially, Macy’s asked the judge to order MSLO to cease any collaborative efforts with JC Penney until after the issue was resolved at trial. However, the judge did not allow Macy’s request.

– Since then, MSLO and JC Penney have forged ahead to create MarthaHome, a “store within a store” offering three collections of products: MarthaPantry (food items), MarthaCelebrations (paper party products), and MarthaWindow (window treatments). It is also known that MSLO designers are working with JC Penney to create the “JC Penney Everyday” collection, which will offer products in those categories to which Macy’s claims to hold exclusive rights. In order to adhere to the MSLO-Macy’s exclusivity agreement, the JC Penney Everyday products will NOT have any Martha Stewart branding on them. (Although there is a connection: “Martha Stewart Everyday” was the name of Martha’s collection sold at Kmart stores from 1997 – 2009. Also, MSLO has for many years had a publication called “Everyday Food”, which also inspired a popular TV cooking show, also called “Everyday Food”.)

Today, Martha appeared in court and testified for four hours. She said that she believed her agreement with JC Penney was structured to be in compliance with the MSLO-Macy’s agreement. She also claimed that Macy’s had breached the contract by not maximizing sales of the Martha Stewart Collection at its stores. Martha claimed that she wanted to open Martha “store within a store” concept in Macy’s, but they were cool to the idea.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.

From The Huffington Post:

The biggest opportunities for Martha Stewart Living are in selling products for the home, including bedding, bath and kitchen merchandise. That’s because as the housing recovery gains momentum in the economic recovery, people likely will put more money into their homes.

During her testimony on Tuesday, Stewart said she always wanted to open big shops within Macy’s stores, but the retailer never embraced that concept. Instead, she said the merchandise in Macy’s stores is just “here and there.”

That’s why she said that a proposal from Penney’s Johnson to create shops filled with home merchandise was appealing to her. She called Johnson a “visionary.”

“We hoped this business would be growing,” Stewart said. “It just boggles my mind that we’re here sitting in front of you, judge.”

Martha Hosts American Made Workshop at Grand Central Station

Martha Stewart at American Made event in Grand Central Station

Martha was in Grand Central Station yesterday to celebrate American crafting and creative entrepreneurship. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia created the American Made Award to honor people who’ve started businesses based on their passion for creating. This year’s 11 honorees are featured in October’s Martha Stewart Living magazine, and you can learn more about them here. On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, MSLO hosted an American Made workshop in Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station in NYC. You can see lots of photos from the event and its set-up here. Of course, Martha was on hand to celebrate the honorees, invite others to learn and participate, and to provide some tips of her own.

From marthastewart.com:

Thursday morning, Martha Stewart gave a presentation of “Five Things Everyone Needs to Know,” her favorite tips and tricks for everything from pumpkin carving to house painting. Here are her five key tips:

1. Use an ice ball maker for perfectly spherical ice for liquor. It’s a neat trick that will keep drinks cool.

2. Cut open the bottom of a pumpkin when carving to preserve the look of the pumpkin and coat the cut parts with petroleum jelly to keep them from rotting. See this tip.

3. Put a whole head of garlic between two metal bowls and shake to remove all the paper for perfectly clean garlic cloves. Wash your hands on the stainless steel metal bowl to get rid of the smell. See this tip.

4. To remove thorns from a rose easily, grab a thick washcloth and run it firmly down the sides to rip off the leaves and thorns.

5. When painting in your house, attach a rubber band across the mouth of a paint bucket to wipe the brush on. The drips will fall back into the can. See this tip.

Martha Stewart’s Cooking School Debuts on October 6

Martha looks smashing at the PBS event I first wrote about last week. She was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills to promote her new show, “Martha Stewart’s Cooking School” on PBS. I’m certain that you read Martha’s blog daily, as do I, so you can see more photos from this event there. I’m certain that I speak for all FOMs when I say: Welcome back to television, Martha–we missed you!

From themarthablog.com:

Posing with PBS crew members who interviewed me for video that will promote “Martha Stewart’s Cooking School,” debuting on PBS stations everywhere (check local listings) on Oct. 6th.
